Volodymyr Dudchak, Private Entrepreneur (“we,” “us,” or “our”), operates the ArtCat iPhone app and artcat.app. If you have a privacy question, email support@artcat.app.
1. Information ArtCat handles
Photo library and local records
With your permission, ArtCat can access photos you select or your photo library, depending on the access you grant in iOS. It reads photo content and metadata such as dates and locations to identify museum visits and artwork photos. Artwork and label recognition runs on your iPhone. ArtCat stores photo references, dates, location coordinates, recognized text, matches, visit history, and scan state in a local database on your device. We do not receive your photos or those detailed local records through the museum lookup service.
Museum lookup requests
To find possible museum matches, ArtCat sends a coarse six-character geohash area and your selected app language to our catalog service. A coarse area can still reveal an approximate location. The app makes the final match against photo locations on your iPhone. Searches you choose to make for museums may send your search words and, when used, a location to our catalog service.
Feedback and support
If you send feedback or suggest a museum in the app, we store the text, a random submission identifier, its category, and the time it was submitted. The feedback API does not intentionally store your IP address, account identifier, or device identifier with the submission. If you email us, we receive your email address and anything you include in the message.
Analytics, diagnostics, and purchases
The app uses Amplitude to measure feature use and broad activity, such as museum, visit, and achievement counts, language, and whether you support the app. It uses Sentry to receive technical error information. Sentry is configured not to attach screenshots, view hierarchies, or default personal information. These services may process technical identifiers and device information under their own policies. If you make an in-app purchase, Apple handles payment and sends the app information needed to recognize your purchase; we do not receive your payment card number.
Website visits
Our website is served by Cloudflare, which may process request information such as IP address, browser details, and security logs to deliver and protect the site. The public website does not currently set its own analytics cookies or use advertising trackers.
2. How we use information
- Provide museum matching, artwork browsing, search, achievements, and other app features.
- Respond to feedback, museum suggestions, support requests, and errors.
- Understand broad patterns of app use and improve ArtCat.
- Maintain the security and reliability of the app, catalog, and website.
- Recognize in-app purchases and meet legal obligations.
3. Service providers and sharing
We use Cloudflare for the website, API, and feedback storage; Amplitude for app analytics; Sentry for crash and error reporting; and Apple for app distribution and in-app purchases. These providers process data needed for their roles under their own terms and privacy notices. We do not sell your personal information or share your photo library with advertisers. We may disclose information if required by law or needed to protect the service and its users.
4. Storage, retention, and security
Detailed photo and visit records are stored on your iPhone and remain subject to your device settings and backups. In-app feedback is kept for as long as needed to review and act on it; support messages are kept for as long as needed to resolve the request and maintain appropriate records. Analytics and diagnostic retention follows our provider settings. We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no system can promise absolute security.
5. Your choices and requests
You can limit or revoke photo access in iOS Settings. You can remove the app and its local data using iOS controls, subject to any device backups you maintain. You may ask us about, correct, or request deletion of information we hold about you by emailing support@artcat.app. Because in-app feedback is anonymous to our API, we may be unable to locate a particular submission without details you provide. Rights available to you depend on applicable law.
6. Children and international processing
ArtCat is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Our service providers may process information in countries other than yours, subject to their safeguards and applicable law.
7. Changes
We may update this policy as ArtCat changes. We will post the revised version here with a new “Last updated” date. If a change materially affects how information is handled, we will provide additional notice where required.
